Indonesian Language Teaching Assistant (ILTA)

The Indonesian Language Teaching Assistant (ILTA) Program is an initiative delivered through a partnership between the Education and Culture Attaché Office at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Canberra and the ACT Education Directorate. ILTAs are Indonesian university students currently studying at Australian universities who support Indonesian language programs in schools.

Roles of ILTAs

  • Support the delivery and enhancement of Indonesian language learning;
  • Contribute to the planning and development of Indonesian language learning activities and resources;
  • Participate in the promotion of Indonesian language and culture within schools and the broader community;
  • Assist in strengthening partnerships and communication between schools and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Canberra.

Program Objectives

  • Support the sustainability and strategic development of Indonesian language programs in Australia;
  • Increase students’ engagement with authentic Indonesian language and culture;
  • Strengthen educational and cultural connections between Indonesia and Australia;
  • Foster greater collaboration between schools, universities, and the Indonesian Embassy.

Through the ILTA Program, schools gain access to enthusiastic and culturally knowledgeable assistants who enrich language learning experiences while helping to strengthen Indonesia–Australia people-to-people connections.
